What Does Full Coverage Auto Insurance Actually Cover in Plano, TX?

Ask ten drivers on E Parker Rd what “full coverage” means and you will get ten different answers. It is the single most common phrase our agents hear at our Plano office at 1120 E Parker Rd — and one of the most misunderstood.

Here is the honest version, straight from the people who write these policies every day: full coverage auto insurance is not a product you can buy off a shelf. There is no box on a Texas application labeled “full coverage.” It is shorthand for a policy that stacks three separate protections together. As Sam LaBarre, one of our owner-agents with 17 years in the business, put it in our guide How much coverage do I need for personal auto insurance?: “While ‘full coverage’ is not a specific type of insurance, it typically refers to a combination of liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage.”

That distinction matters on North Texas roads, where a commute down US-75 or the Dallas North Tollway can end in a fender-bender, and where one spring hailstorm can total the roof of a car parked in your own driveway.

What “Full Coverage” Auto Insurance Actually Includes

Liability — required by Texas, but it protects everyone except you

Liability is the only part Texas law requires. It pays for the other party’s injuries and property when you are at fault, and nothing else.

  • Bodily injury liability — the other driver’s and passengers’ medical costs
  • Property damage liability — their vehicle, a fence, a storefront

Texas minimums are 30/60/25: $30,000 per injured person, $60,000 per accident, $25,000 for property damage. Liability limits are usually written as split limits like 30/60/25 or 100/300/50 — the first number is per person, the second per accident, the third for property damage. With the average new vehicle now well past $45,000, that $25,000 property-damage figure disappears fast.

Collision — repairs your car after an impact

Collision pays to repair or replace your vehicle after you hit something (or something hits you), no matter who was at fault: another car, a guardrail, a parking-garage pillar. It carries a deductible you select, commonly $500 or $1,000. If your vehicle is financed or leased, your lender will require it.

Comprehensive — everything that is not a collision

In North Texas, this is the coverage that earns its keep. Comprehensive handles:

  • Hail and severe storm damage
  • Flooding and wind
  • Theft and vandalism
  • Fire
  • Falling limbs and highway debris
  • Cracked windshields
  • Animal strikes

Collin County sits in the middle of hail country. A single storm rolling across Plano, Allen, and Frisco can dent a hood, crack the glass, and write off a roof. A liability-only policy pays none of that. That combination — liability plus collision plus comprehensive — is what most people mean when they shop for car insurance full cover.

The pieces most drivers forget

Our agents rarely stop at the big three. Depending on your situation, we will price out:

  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) — protects you when the at-fault driver has no policy or not enough of one, a real risk in Texas
  • Personal injury protection (PIP) — medical bills and lost wages regardless of fault
  • MedPay — medical costs for you and your passengers, valuable if your health plan has a high deductible
  • Gap coverage — bridges the difference between the loan balance and the vehicle’s actual value
  • Rental reimbursement, roadside assistance, custom equipment, and new car replacement

Full Coverage vs. State Minimums: What Texas Drivers Get Wrong

“Full coverage means everything is covered.” It does not. Deductibles, coverage limits, and exclusions still apply, and mechanical breakdown and normal wear are never covered. Our Plano FAQ makes the point plainly: know what is included and what is not before a claim, not after.

“The state minimum is enough.” Minimum liability keeps you legal and leaves your own vehicle completely unprotected. It also caps out quickly — anything above the limit follows you personally.

“Their insurance will pay for it.” Only if they carry enough, and only once fault is settled. Your own collision and UM/UIM coverage is what gets the car in the shop this week rather than next quarter.

“Full coverage costs too much.” Premiums shift with ZIP code, vehicle, driving record, and deductible — and with the carrier. Because Villa Texas Insurance is an independent insurance agency in Plano, TX rather than a single-company office, we shop the same driver profile across multiple carriers and show you the difference side by side. The same coverage can carry very different price tags depending on who is underwriting it.

“Set it and forget it.” A new vehicle, a paid-off loan, a teen driver, a move from Garland to Plano — each one changes what you should be carrying.

Bundling Auto, Home, and Motorcycle Coverage

Because we place personal lines across several carriers, we can look at your whole household at once instead of one policy in isolation.

Auto + home. Your house and your car face the same hail season. Writing them together usually unlocks multi-policy pricing, and — just as important — it lets one agent make sure the deductibles and limits on both policies line up before a storm tests them. See our personal insurance overview for home, auto, and renters options.

Motorcycle. Texas has a long riding season, and a bike needs its own policy with its own liability, collision, and comprehensive limits, plus coverage for custom parts, accessories, and safety gear. Discounts frequently apply for completing a safe-riding course, adding anti-theft devices, or bundling the bike with your home or auto policies. If you ride, ask for a motorcycle insurance quote at the same time as your auto review and we will price both together.

Renters, general liability, and business auto round out what we can look at in a single sitting — useful if you run a company as well as a household.

How the Review Actually Works

No forms-and-silence routine. Our process is three steps: request a quote, talk with an agent, get covered. You can start the free quote form, call the Plano office at 972-424-1606, or email service@villatexasins.com. An agent — Sasha, Dora, Javier, or another member of our Plano team — will walk your current declarations page line by line, in English or Spanish, and tell you exactly where you are exposed and where you are over-insured.

We are licensed in Texas and the surrounding states, reachable around the clock, and we stay involved after the sale: when a claim happens, you call your agent, not a phone tree.

Drivers across Plano, AllenFriscoRichardson, and Garland come to us for the same reason: they want to know what they are actually buying.

Bring us your current policy. We will show you what full coverage would look like for your vehicles — and what it would cost across several carriers — before you commit to anything.
